In instances with extreme heat, we suggest limiting outdoor activities, providing additional hydration breaks for participants, adjusting schedules and attire, and encouraging additional rest periods in shaded areas.

Outdoor Facility Closures
Thunder and Lightning during Practices
- At the first sign/sound of thunder or lightning, ALL activities must cease.
- Players and spectators should be cleared from the fields, bleachers, and surrounding areas.
- Activities may resume after a 30-minute delay beyond the last sign/sound of thunder or lightning.
- Each subsequent lightning flash or thunder would restart the 30-minute timer.
- AA County high schools are equipped with a lightning detection system. If you are using any High School facility, there should be a warning system alert. Click here for Guidelines for AACO Lightning Procedures. If the detection system is not functioning, please use your sight and sound senses.

Thunder and Lightning - Game Cancellations
- Games should be suspended at the first sign/sound of thunder or lightning.
- Players and spectators should be cleared from the fields, bleachers, and surrounding areas.
- Officials should monitor thunder/lightning incidents during gameplay. Play should not resume until at least
30-minutes after the last sound of thunder or flash of lightning. - Each subsequent lightning flash or thunder would restart the 30-minute timer.
- The game official has the authority to cancel any game due to inclement weather
