Aging & Disabilities Volunteer Opportunities

There are a number of very rewarding ways to provide meaningful volunteer service to your community through the Department of Aging and Disabilities. You may gain more than you give.

Senior Activity Centers Notice

All Senior Activity Centers will be closed on January 29 and January 30, 2026 due to ongoing adverse weather and travel conditions. View press release for more information.

Available Programs

  • Senior Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) - Extensive training is provided to enable volunteers to counsel and assist older adults with Medicare and health insurance related questions.
  • Senior Nutrition Program Volunteers
  • Ombudsman Program Volunteers
  • Volunteer Income Tax Assistance - Volunteers are trained by IRS to help older adults with simple income tax returns.
  • Telephone Reassurance Volunteers - are trained to make or receive calls to and from older adults enrolled in the program who live alone. Volunteers make sure the older adult is safe.
  • Home Delivered Meals: Call Meals on Wheels at (410) 431-5257.
  • Senior Activity Center volunteers, 18 years of age and older are welcome.
