Bureau of Waste Management Services

The Bureau of Waste Management operates the Millersville Landfill and three County Recycling Centers. To preserve landfill space, the bureau focuses on providing County Residents with additional recycling opportunities at all Waste Management Facilities. Additionally, the Bureau of Waste Management collects recycling, yard waste and trash for most of the households in Anne Arundel County.

WMS Good Friday Holiday Curbside Collection & Facility Schedule

Friday, April 3, 2026: Normal Friday curbside collections will occur. All Waste Management Services facilities and offices are closed. All facilities will reopen on Saturday, April 4. Curbside collection of recycling, yard waste, and trash will not be affected by the holiday.

To report a missed curbside collection, a recycling cart repair request or other curbside/Waste Management Services’ Facilities concerns, please call 311 or report online via SeeClickFix. Once a concern is reported, SeeClickFix can also be used to check on the status of the inquiry.

Spring Paper Shredding Event 2026

Event Details:  Date: Saturday, April 11, 2026  Time: 8:00 am to 12:00 pm  Location: Heritage Office Complex, 2662 Riva Rd, Annapolis, MD 21401   Instructions: Residents can drop off documents in cardboard boxes or rigid containers (limit of 4) to be safely shredded on-site.

Anne Arundel County residents are able to drop off up to 4 cardboard boxes or rigid containers of personal documents (no bags, please!) per vehicle to be safely shredded on site by a secure service, so there is no need to pre-shred your paper!

Plus, all shredded paper is 100% recycled after the event!

The outdoor shredding event is scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M., at the Heritage Office Complex, 2662 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. Please note that the date and time frame are subject to change.

Please be aware that we cannot accept these items to be shredded: pieces of cardboard, plastics, binders, common trash, hazardous materials, CDs, DVDs, magnetic media, X-Rays, computers, accessories, pre-shredded paper, or non-confidential papers at the spring paper shred event.

Ten-Year Solid Waste Management Plan 2024-2033

The Anne Arundel County (County) Solid Waste Management Plan (the Plan) was prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Article, Title 9, Subtitle 5 of the Annotated Code of Maryland and the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 26.03.03. The Plan covers the ten (10) year comprehensive planning period of January 2024 – December 2033.
