Jessica Leys has led the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks as Director since 2021. In this pivotal role, she oversees a comprehensive range of recreational and childcare programs for county residents as well as over 160 parks and natural areas. Prior to this, she served as the Department's Deputy Director and earned her Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) Certification in 2022. Before transitioning to what she enthusiastically refers to as the “Department of Fun,” Jessica served in the County’s Budget Office as the Assistant Budget Officer.
Jessica holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration from Shippensburg University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Baltimore. As a lifelong Anne Arundel County resident, a 25-year veteran of the County government, and a former collegiate athlete and youth sports coach, Jessica brings a dynamic leadership style to the Department. She is deeply committed to fostering her team’s dedication to providing the public with opportunities to enjoy life, explore nature, and restore and improve their health and well-being.
