Operational Changes

Please read this important update regarding operational changes beginning December 18, 2021.
 
If a pet has been picked up by Animal Care & Control, it is now safe and cannot fall victim to automobile injuries, poisoning, animal attacks, rabies exposure, exposure to inclement weather conditions, fear and many other hazards experienced when at-large.
 
The pet will be held at Animal Care & Control five (5) days unless extremely aggressive, seriously injured or suffering. Owners should come to Animal Care & Control and look for missing/lost pets within this five day period. If the pet is not at Animal Care & Control, a lost card and/or a picture can be posted in the kennel.
 
If the pet is at Animal Care & Control, the owner will need to be prepared to complete the steps below in the How to section to reclaim the animal.

How to

To reclaim your pet you must:

1. Have valid ID 

2. Be able to provide provide proof of ownership by providing one of the following: 

  • Vet records
  • Bill of sale or adoption contract
  • Pictures may be used to provide proof however they are subject to review by the Agency to determine if they are sufficient

3. Provide proof that your animal has a current rabies vaccination (for dogs, cats and ferrets 4 months of age or older).  If your pet did not arrive with a current rabies vaccination you will be charged for one ($20.00) during redemption and it will be administered.

4.  Provide proof of license for your pet.  If you are an Anne Arundel County resident and your pet was not licensed prior to arrival a license will be issued at the time of redemption and you will be charged accordingly (fees range from $0.00-$125.00, late fees apply if your pet was licensed and the license has lapsed).

5. Comply with all conditions required for the return of the animal (i.e. comply with all conditions in Administrative Orders by Animal Care & Control, comply with modifications to your home/yard to ensure the keeping of your pet will be in compliance with State and County laws) (if applicable) 

6. Pay all applicable fees (including redemption/reclaimation fees (see below), late fees (if applicable) and any outstanding fines (unless adjudication has been requested))

Redemption fees are payable by CASH or CREDIT ONLY and includes, but is not limited to:

Impoundment Fee $25.00 - $200.00
Board $5.00 per day
Rabies Vaccination $20.00
License No charge - $125.00
Citations (if applicable) $50.00 - $1,000.00
The cost of any veterinary services provided to your animal while in the care/custody of Animal Care & Control $TBD

You may ONLY reclaim your pet during the following hours:

  • Monday CLOSED
  • Tuesday 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Wednesday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Thursday 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Friday 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Saturday 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
  • Sunday CLOSED
