Our Child Care Professionals are a part of our family here at Rec & Parks! With a focus on giving our employees a positive experience and a connection to the children and families we serve, we have a comprehensive onboarding and training process. MANY of our amazing professionals started with us as high school students… and have now been with our organization from 5 to 30 years!

Our child care programs are licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education’s Office of Child Care, and are designed to address the social & recreational needs of the age groups that we care for at each location. Currently, we operate:

  • 2 Pre-K locations for 3-5 year olds
  • 47 School-Age locations for K-5th graders

In a typical school year, activities in most of our programs include: PM Snack, Homework/Literacy Time, Outdoor Play, Staff-directed Crafts, Self-Directed Crafts, Organized Games, Activity Stations (a rotation of “free play” stations that gives children the opportunity to explore different age-appropriate materials and learn through play with their peers, such as: Engineering, Science & Math, Housekeeping, Music, Movement, etc.), Community Service Projects, and Special Events.

All of our school year child care programs follow the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Calendar for opening and closing dates. Child Care Professionals are expected to work the full school year, and have the option to work or decline to work for the summer. Child Care Professionals who remain with us for the summer are given the opportunity to work in camp-licensed or child-care licensed programs during the summer months.

During the school year, our child care centers operate Monday-Friday, every day that schools are in session for students:

  • Pre-K location shifts operate from 8:30am-3:30pm daily, or from 3:15-5:30pm daily
  • School-Age location shifts operate from 6:15-8:15am and/or 2:00pm-6:00pm daily (these locations also open two hours earlier in the afternoon on the planned two hour early dismissal days in the school calendar)

During the summer, our camps and child care programs operate Monday-Friday when school buildings are available:

  • All programs typically operate 6:45am-6:00pm daily, and staff work a shift within that time frame.

Since many of our programs operate before & after school hours, this provides for great flexibility in your part-time career!

  • If you only want to work mornings – you can!
  • If you only want to work afternoons – you can!
  • If you want as many hours as possible – we’d love to have you work every day morning and afternoon!
  • If you only want to work during the school year – you can!
  • If you want to work all year round – you can!

Our child care positions are often loved by retirees, high school students, college students, those who work for Anne Arundel County Public Schools in the middle of the day, and… anyone who is interested in making a difference in the lives of children!
