Active Projects
Project Description
The Park Visitors Center and the adjacent Blue Heron buildings were built in 1989. Since that time they are both heavily trafficked and used by Park patrons. While they have served us well, they are now in need of some attention. Both now 30+-year-old facilities suffer from end-of-service-life finishes, requiring updates to their life-safety systems and renovations to meet the current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. Both the Visitors Center and Blue Heron buildings will undergo complete interior and exterior renovations, including new siding, columns, windows, railings, exterior painting, and the addition of a new fire pump building. New finishes and lightings will be provided inside both buildings. The interior of the Visitors Center will receive structural repairs and also feature updated art galleries and exhibits.

Project Description
Working in partnership with the Resilience Authority of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, this project is an assessment of the park shorelines along the South River, Harness Creek, and Loden Pond to identifiy and prioritize areas in most need of restoration to enhance the user experience, better manage stormwater runoff and build the park’s resilience to erosion, sea level rise and other climate-related impacts. The assessment and project prioritization focuses on coastal restoration projects that dissipate wave energy, stabilize the existing shoreline and create and enhance a mosaic of estuarine habitats, including tidal marsh, upland wetland, beach strand, and submerged aquatic vegetation habitat. The benefits of this project willl be to reduce the erosion rate, protect shallow water habitat, and protect Quiet Waters Park infrastructure.
