Millersville, MD (July 9, 2026)—The Anne Arundel County Police Department announces the activation of a new automated red light traffic enforcement camera. The existing program uses fixed red-light camera units to enforce automated traffic signal control, with the goal of improving safety on county roadways.
The camera unit will go live on July 16, 2026, at Route 2 Ritchie Highway and Ordnance Road (Southbound). The Anne Arundel County Police Department uses crash data and safety assessments to determine suitable camera locations.
Camera Operation and Enforcement
- Hours of Operation: Red light cameras operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to ensure consistent traffic enforcement.
- Warning Period: A 30-day warning period will be in effect at each new camera location before citations are issued.
- Citations will be issued for vehicles violating the red traffic control signal. The fine is $75.00. There are no added late fees. An MVA administrative flagging fee applies if the citation goes unpaid and the vehicle registration is flagged as a result.
- Citations will be mailed to the registered vehicle owner and include photos of the violation, date, time, and location
