Traffic Engineering & Maintenance

We believe that we play an integral part in ensuring that all traffic modes(pedestrians, bicyclists, transit, and vehicles) flow through county roadways efficiently and safely.

Traffic Maintenance Facility Fire

As you might have heard, our Traffic Maintenance Facility experienced a fire on March 17, 2024 that severely damaged the main building.  Thankfully, no one was hurt.  However, the building that housed the County's sign fabrication operation was lost.  This loss will impact essential tasks such as installing and maintaining street name signs, no-parking signs, and warning signs.  Our Traffic Engineering Division's goal is to continue to provide emergency sign maintenance to missing or damaged stop, yield, and do not enter signs.

The loss of the main building will also impact the level of service we can provide for other activities, such as installing and maintaining pavement markings and traffic signals. We are in the process of implementing contingency plans to ensure that we are able to continue to perform these important services.

Thank you for your understanding and patience. We are confident that our Traffic Engineering Division will soon be back in full operation and providing a high level of customer service to the residents of Anne Arundel County.

Please contact Traffic Engineering to report all traffic control concerns such as intersection safety, traffic calming, and mis-timed traffic signals by emailing us at hwyscustomercare@aacounty.org or by calling us at (410) 222-7331.
