Project Description
This project is for design and construction of a renovation of the historic Barracks building into a new Visitor Center for the Park. The rehabilitated building will include exhibit and interpretive spaces, community-use rooms, Park offices and restrooms. The building will be fully-accessible by persons with disabilities

The project is presently in the final stages of design and permitting. The project is expected to commence bidding in Summer 2024 and construction completed in mid-2025. For schedule information see Department of Public Works website.
Project Description
This project is for the design and construction of repairs and modifications to the breakwaters and living shoreline along Rock Creek in Fort Smallwood Park. The work, in Reach 3 of the restored shoreline, is necessary due to storm damage sustained in 2025. It includes retrofitting two breakwater gaps, replacing sand, and adding reef balls to reduce shoreline erosion and provide additional habitat for aquatic wildlife.

The Department of Public Works and the Department of Recreation and Parks held a Public Meeting on September 30, 2026 at 6:00 PM at the Riviera Beach Library in Pasadena, MD to review the project design.
