A Phased, Long-Term Program
Because of the size and complexity of the Mayo Peninsula sewer system, tank replacements are being completed through a phased approach over approximately 12 years, starting in mid-2026.
This phased schedule allows the County and its project partners to:
- Coordinate work efficiently
- Limit neighborhood disruption
- Communicate clearly with impacted homeowners
- Maintain system reliability throughout construction
Each phase will focus on specific communities, with detailed schedules shared closer to the start of work.

Step 1: Planning Meeting
The Planning Meeting is the first step once your community enters an active phase.
During this on-site visit, the County’s engineering consultant will meet with you to review the specific conditions of your property. This meeting focuses on gathering accurate, current information before any construction planning is finalized.
Topics may include:
- Verifying the location of the existing tank
- Reviewing site features such as landscaping, fencing, or structures
- Identifying access considerations for equipment
- Documenting homeowner knowledge about the property
As-built drawings may not reflect changes made over decades. Your input helps ensure accurate planning.
This meeting is informational and investigative. Not all technical questions may be answered at this time, but all input will be documented for review.

Step 2: Pre-Construction Meeting
The Pre-Construction Meeting takes place after the Planning Meeting and before any physical work begins.
This on-site meeting allows the project team to review the findings from the Planning Meeting and confirm details with the homeowner. Inspection staff and construction representatives may be involved.
Discussion topics may include:
- Review of Replacement Project Plan Document (unique to each property)
- Confirmation of access points and work areas
- Special considerations for landscaping or structures
- Communication expectations during construction
This step ensures all parties have a shared understanding before work starts.

Step 3: Construction
Construction is the phase when the existing tank is removed, and the new tank is installed.
Homeowners can expect:
- Clearly marked work areas and safety fencing
- Construction activity focused around the tank location
- Temporary changes to yard access or driveway use
- Noise and equipment presence during work hours
- Disturbed areas to be seeded and strawed
Anticipated duration:
Most tank replacements are expected to take one to several days, though exact timing varies based on site conditions and weather.Crews will work efficiently to complete installation, inspections, and site restoration as quickly as possible.

Step 4: Post-Construction Meeting
After construction is complete, a Post-Construction Meeting will be scheduled to review the completed work.
This meeting provides an opportunity to:
- Confirm that installation is complete
- Review final site conditions
- Address any remaining questions or concerns
- Sign the Replacement Project Plan Document, noting identified next steps, if any
This final step ensures transparency and closure for the homeowner and project team.
