Suspicious Death Investigation (Arrest Update) - Davidsonville

On May 24, 2025, at 9:25 p.m., Anne Arundel County Police officers and Fire personnel responded to 600 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville for a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, emergency crews located a vehicle fully engulfed in flames in the parking lot of the commercial business. The fire was extinguished revealing human remains inside the passenger compartment of the burned vehicle.

Investigators from the Anne Arundel County Fire & Explosives Investigations Unit responded to investigate the cause of the vehicle fire. Detectives from the Anne Arundel County Criminal Investigations Division arrived on scene and assumed responsibility for the suspicious death investigation. Detectives are making efforts to positivley identify the human remains. The unidentified human remains have been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Update (May 31, 2025)

Investigators with the Anne Arundel County Police Homicide Unit worked tirelessly throughout the week to further this investigation. The Office of the State Medical Examiner has ruled the manner of death a homicide; however, the determination of the cause of death is pending. Detectives, through investigative means, identified two suspects in this case. They are still working to identify the adult male victim.

On May 31, 2025, 18-year-old Jonah Michael Poole, of Davidsonville, and 18-year-old Kylee Alyssa Dakes, of Harwood were taken into custody at a residence in the unit block of Bethel Lane in Harwood and charged with First and Second Degree Murder, First and Second Degree Assault, Conspiracy to Commit First and Second Degree Murder, and Arson.

Update (June 2, 2025)

The victim in this case has been identified as 67-year-old Edward Stephen Koza, of Annapolis, Maryland. The motive and cause of death remain under investigation.
