Shooting (Non-Contact) Arrest Update - Brooklyn

On October 21, 2023, at approximately 1:00 a.m., officers responded for a shooting in the 200 block of West Hilltop Road in Brooklyn. Three males were outside of their residence when an occupant of a silver SUV fired at them as the vehicle drove by. The vehicle fled on West Hilltop Road, struck and broke through the I-895 access door at the end of West Hilltop Road, and continued north on I-895. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident. Northern District detectives are investigating and ask anyone with information to call 410-222-6135. Update (November 17, 2023):
Through investigation, detectives identified a suspect in this case, a 16-year-old male from Brooklyn, Maryland. The suspect was located on November 17, 2023, in Baltimore County, Maryland, where he was taken into custody and charged.

Motor Vehicle Theft (Arrest) - Glen Burnie

On November 16, 2023, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Western District detectives, along with detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division Auto Theft Task Force, were proactively patrolling the area of Elvaton Road and Tall Pines Court in Glen Burnie as part of an initiative to curtail incidences of motor vehicle theft in the county. While patrolling, detectives observed a white 2023 Volkswagen Taos that had been reported stolen out of Montgomery County, Maryland. As one of the detectives signaled the driver of the stolen vehicle to stop, the driver accelerated quickly in reverse toward the detective’s police vehicle, ramming the police vehicle while the detective was still inside. The driver fled in the stolen vehicle and was pursued by other officers until the vehicle stopped, and both occupants attempted to flee on foot. Both suspects were apprehended in the 1000 block of Upton Road in Glen Burnie. The driver was found to be in possession of the key fob for the stolen Volkswagen Taos. The passenger was found to be in possession of a key fob for a stolen 2019 Nissan Altima, which was located by officers on Tall Pines Court in Glen Burnie. Both suspects have been charged in connection with the motor vehicle theft offenses as well as the assault on the police officer.

Homicide (Arrest Update) - Glen Burnie

On August 31, 2022, at approximately 2:30 a.m. Anne Arundel County Police Officers responded to a reported shooting in the 400 block of M Street North East in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Officers discovered an adult male inside a residence suffering from gunshot wounds. Lifesaving efforts by both Police and Fire Department personnel were unsuccessful, and the male was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim has been identified as Matthew Anthony Ponder, 27, of Glen Burnie.
The Anne Arundel County Police Homicide Unit has assumed the investigation. Detectives and forensic investigators processed the scene and canvassed the area for witnesses and any information related to the incident. At this time, the investigation is active and ongoing. This incident appears to have been targeted, and no ongoing threat to public safety is believed to exist.

Following an extensive investigation into the murder of Matthew Ponder, Homicide detectives identified one of the suspects involved, 26-year-old Andre Raquan Riggs, of Middle River, Maryland. On November 16, 2023, members of the Anne Arundel County Police Fugitive Apprehension Team located Riggs in Baltimore County and took him into custody. Riggs was charged with First-Degree Murder, Second-Degree Murder, Home Invasion, Burglary, First-Degree Assault, and related charges.
