Armed Subject

The Anne Arundel County Police Department has received numerous calls for service involving an armed subject in a residential community in Severn. The armed subject is reported to walk on public property near and past school bus stops, occasionally talking with children. Officers have made contact with the subject, who is not a prohibited possessor, and the long gun in question is permitted under the Maryland open carry laws. The police department has been in constant contact with Anne Arundel County Public Schools and the State’s Attorney’s Office. Officers are in the area to help ease growing concerns between students and parents alike.

 

Northern District
Theft/Assault - Glen Burnie

On May 17, 2023, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers responded for a report of a theft in progress at the JC Penney, 7900 Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie. As officers arrived in the area, they observed the suspects, as described by the victim, attempting to get into a vehicle. Due to time and distance, the suspects were able to enter the vehicle. As officers approached the vehicle, the suspects initially remained stationary but as the officers made contact, the driver reversed the vehicle towards the officers, nearly pinning one of them against a patrol vehicle. Two officers were injured and were transported to an area hospital. They have been released with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers would go on to remove all the occupants of the vehicle, two of whom were positively identified as the shoplifters from the JC Penney. Both suspects were arrested and charged accordingly.

On May 16, 2023, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers were conducting periodic checks of the Ark and Dove Presbyterian Church, 8424 Piney Orchard Parkway in Odenton, due to numerous thefts at the location when they were advised of a theft. The victim stated that six rainbow-colored plastic hearts that were surrounding their LGBTQ+ sign were stolen. Western District detectives are investigating the theft and ask that anyone with information contact them at (410) 222-6155 or the Anne Arundel County Police Tip Line at (410) 222-4700.

Theft (Hate / Bias) - Odenton

On May 17, 2023, at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers responded for a report of a theft that occurred at the Ark and Dove Presbyterian Church, 8424 Piney Orchard Parkway in Odenton. The victim informed officers that five rainbow-colored plastic hearts from around an LGBTQ+ sign were stolen sometime between 5:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. A review of surveillance footage showed the suspect appeared to be the same suspect from the previous theft at the same location. Western District detectives are investigating the theft and ask that anyone with information contact them at (410) 222-6155 or the Anne Arundel County Police Tip Line at (410) 222-4700.
