Homicide (Update) - Odenton

On July 18, 2026, at approximately 8:50 p.m., Western District officers responded to the 500 block of Williamsburg Lane in Odenton for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located an unresponsive adult male lying on the sidewalk suffering from apparent gunshot wound(s). The victim was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Detectives from the Anne Arundel County Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division Homicide Unit responded to the scene and took over responsibility for the investigation. Preliminary investigation indicates there was a verbal and physical altercation outside of the residence that led up to the shooting. Detectives are interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence. This appears to be an isolated incident to the residence and domestic-related in nature. The victim is not being identified at this time as detectives work to make family notification. This remains an active investigation.

Update: The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Marquell Alonso Derrington of Capitol Heights, Maryland.
