On April 4, 2025, at approximately 6:05 a.m., the Anne Arundel County Police and Fire Department responded to 1204 Lorene Court in Pasadena for a report of an unresponsive female. The 911 call was placed by Scott Kirby, a resident of 1204 Lorene Court, who advised his girlfriend, 34-year-old Heather Elizabeth Beaver, of Pasadena, appeared to be suffering from an overdose inside the residence. Responding officers observed injuries on Ms. Beaver's body, and the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Homicide Unit was requested. Ms. Beaver was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Maryland performed an autopsy and ruled the death a Homicide by Multiple Blunt Force Injuries. Toxicology testing revealed that Ms. Beaver's death was not related to an overdose.
Further investigation contradicted Scott Kirby's explanation. Evidence gathered from the scene was consistent with a violent struggle and assault. Based on the totality of the evidence, investigators, working in conjunction with the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office, concluded that Scott Kirby assaulted Ms. Beaver, inflicting the fatal injuries.
On April 22, 2026, an arrest warrant was issued for Scott Kirby for the murder of Ms. Beaver. The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Team members assigned to the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF), in coordination with other task force personnel, arrested Scott Kirby on April 23, 2026, charging him with Second Degree Murder, First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault, and False Statement to an Officer.
