Historic cemetery preservation is challenging due to the pressures of development, neglect, and climate change. Anne Arundel County strives to protect cemeteries during development review, as well as improve cemetery stewardship with public outreach opportunities.

This research is being conducted by the Historic Preservation Planning Section and its preservation intern, Emily Smithey, a graduate student in the University of Maryland, College Park Cultural and Heritage Resource Management program.

The purpose of this survey is:

  1. To assess the condition of cemeteries in Anne Arundel County.
  2. To determine the greatest risk factors for cemeteries.
  3. To determine what impact climate may have on cemeteries.

By participating in this survey, you will add your voice to help us understand how to improve cemetery protections and management for you and your community.

This survey takes less than 5 minutes to complete.
