Annapolis, MD (August 27, 2026) – Anne Arundel County is proud to announce that it has been awarded the 2026 Outstanding Achievement Award for a Public Risk Management Program by the Public Risk Management Association (PRIMA). This national honor recognizes the County’s Community, Roadway, and Automobile Safety Hazard (CRASH) Awareness Program, a comprehensive initiative focused on improving work zone safety and protecting both employees and the traveling public.
The CRASH Awareness Program was developed and led by the County’s Risk Management Division and reflects a strong, collaborative effort across multiple departments. Anne Arundel County shares this achievement with its partners in the Fire Department, Police Department, and Department of Public Works, whose commitment and coordination have been essential to the program’s success.
This initiative brings together education, training, and outreach to address the many facets of roadway and work zone safety. Through coordinated Traffic Incident Management (TIM) practices, educational enforcement efforts, infrastructure safety improvements, and public awareness campaigns such as Work Zone Awareness Week and Go Orange Day, the program represents a unified approach to protecting both workers and the public.
“This recognition reflects the power of collaboration across our County agencies,” said Shannon Hojnowski, Assistant Manager of the Risk Management Division and leader of the County’s safety program. “The dedication of our Fire Department, Police Department, Department of Public Works, and Risk Management Division demonstrates what can be accomplished when we work together toward a common goal-keeping our roadways safe for everyone.”
