Anne Arundel County Adjusts Road Closures to Assist Impacted Businesses in Empire Towers Area

Glen Burnie, MD (July 15, 2026) –  Anne Arundel County has adjusted road closures around the Empire Towers area, maintaining the safety perimeter while creating a detour for businesses that are located outside the collapse zone but have been impacted by road closures.

The county has worked with the state to allow public access via Crain Highway at 514 Crain Highway North into 512 and 514 Crain Highway North. After discussing the structural integrity issues with the engineers working to stabilize Empire Towers and reassessing the risk to public safety at this edge of the perimeter, the county is able to shift the perimeter at this location by about 8 feet to allow access.

This detour will provide employees and customers a safe route to access the businesses in these buildings that have been impacted by road closures since the structural integrity incident began on Thursday. These businesses are all located outside the safety perimeter and are safe to visit.

The county will continue to provide updates on this event at aacounty.org/empiretowers as new information becomes available.
