Because of the communications from residents like you, I was made aware of concerns of work being done on and near the root system of this beautiful old oak tree in Severna Park. Action was taken immediately, including an onsite visit from the county arborist. Upon conclusion of that meeting, the fence protection was expanded out to an appropriate distance, the ground was spiked, and mulch was laid. Any non-essential apparatus and vehicles were moved off the area. What remains is essential to a force main replacement that will prevent a sewage leak or spill in the future. This tree is a strong tree. Upon further investigation, I learned the original sewer line was trench dug and laid under the tree in 1975. While the root system was not nearly as developed back then, it is pretty amazing the tree went unscathed.
