Interested in running for office? Candidates for office must meet certain qualifications. 

Qualifications for Filing Candidacy

This information is for individuals interested in running for elected office in the 2026 Gubernatorial Election.

  1. Step 1 - Authorized Candidate Campaign Committee

    Before filing a Certificate of Candidacy, each candidate for a non-party office must establish an authorized candidate campaign committee by filing a Statement of Organization. There is no fee for filing this form and it can be submitted electronically, at the Maryland Campaign Reporting Information System (MDCRIS).

  2. Step 2 - Financial Disclosure Statement

    State Ethics Disclosure - File electronically before your appointment for the following offices: States Attorney, Clerk of the Circuit Court, Register of Wills, Sheriff.

    County Disclosure - Email statement to Gina Scerbo at gscerbo@aacounty.org before your appointment for the following offices: County Executive, County Council. 

    Judicial Disclosure - email statement to Debra Kaminski at debra.kaminski@mdcourts.gov before your appointment for Judge of the Orphan's Court.

  3. Step 3 – Schedule Your Appointment

    Available appointment times will be displayed on the Online Appointment Scheduler

     

  4. Step 4 – Bring The Following to your Appointment

    Candidate Information Sheet - Can be completed prior to/or in person at the time of filing.

    Filing Fee - A $25.00 filing fee must be paid at the time of filing the Certificate of Candidacy. $10 filing fee for Central Committees. Cash or Check, made out to Anne Arundel County. Note: Personal or Campaign committee checks are acceptable - No Credit Card payments.
