County Executive Pittman Creates Advisory Committee for Crownsville Hospital Memorial Park

Committee will collect public input and share recommendations

Annapolis, MD (September 6, 2023) Yesterday, County Executive Steuart Pittman signed Executive Order 61 to create the Crownsville Advisory Committee for the Crownsville Hospital Memorial Park.

“As stewards of Crownsville, we have an obligation to preserve this land and its history, and an opportunity to transform it into a healing space for our residents and local nonprofits,” said County Executive Pittman. “This Committee will guide us as we work to create a space that all can enjoy.”

The Advisory Committee will collect and compile public input, make recommendations for uses of the property, and advise the County Executive and county departments on the planning process for Crownsville Hospital Memorial Park. The Committee will consider the cultural history of the site, the health and wellness of county residents, residents’ need for recreation and parks, and necessary infrastructure to support these uses of the property.

The Committee includes state and local elected officials, a representative from the Governor’s Office, county agency officials, community members, and individuals with expertise in cultural history, health and wellness, recreation and parks, and infrastructure. After hosting a town hall to seek community feedback in June 2023 that drew over 160 attendees, the County Executive created this Committee to lead the planning process.

The Committee’s first meeting will be held on Thursday, September 28th 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at 100 Community Place. Additional details on the meeting, and other updates on the Committee will be posted on aacounty.org/crownsville-advisory-committee.
