Annapolis, MD (May 8, 2025) – The Anne Arundel County Office of Transportation, City of Annapolis, and Bicycle Advocates for Annapolis & Anne Arundel County (“BikeAAA”) will host the 28th Annual Bike to Work Day event from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025 at Susan Campbell Park on City Dock in downtown Annapolis. The event is free and open to the public.
The event is part of a region-wide Bike to Work Week - May 12 to 16 - organized by The Baltimore Metropolitan Council. The event encourages people to bike to work or other destinations as an alternative to automobile travel.
“Biking to work is a key part of the smarter, greener, more equitable future we’re building in Anne Arundel County through our Walk & Roll Anne Arundel pedestrian and bike master plan,” said County Executive Steuart Pittman. “By making it safer and easier to bike and walk, we’re creating healthier communities and reducing our environmental impact.”
“In order to make cycling welcoming for everyone, we are working in Annapolis to ensure that we have the infrastructure in place so that it can be done safely,” said Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley, who regularly commutes to and from work on his bicycle. “Join us at Bike to Work Day to meet hundreds of regular and first-time bike commuters and learn what all the excitement is about!”
“All county-owned and the new city electric buses have bike racks affixed on them and are available for patrons on bike to work day and every day. Riders can use the county’s Passio GO free app which allows transit users to see real-time bus locations, schedules, and estimated time of arrival for better trip planning,” said Samuel Snead, Director of the Office of Transportation.
The May 16 morning event at Susan Campbell Park at City Dock will include a brief program at 8 a.m. including speakers, giveaways, refreshments, and bike safety checks, as well as t-shirt pickup for those who have pre-registered (https://biketoworkmd.com/event-register). Radio station WRNR will live broadcast the event and play music.
Bike to Work Day and Bike to Work Week are national events. Since 1996, the Baltimore Metropolitan Council and regional partners have organized Bike to Work celebrations to promote biking as a healthy commuting option while promoting public awareness of safety and environmental benefits. In the regional area, there are bike to work events in multiple jurisdictions, including Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Carroll County, Harford County, Howard County and Queen Anne’s County.
