Memorial Day 2025 Severna Park

“NEVER FORGET” “ALL GAVE SOME, SOME GAVE ALL”

A day that we remember and honor the men and women who sacrificed their lives for our country.

For over 50 years the families of our five fallen heroes who did not return from Vietnam, have been remembered by their family, friends and loved ones.  Major Ronald Britz, 1st Lt. Charles Bedsole, Chief Warrant Officer Edward Mortimer, Specialist Richard Nitsche Jr, and Specialist Danny Quaite.

Today, because of the community that never forgot them, those who never knew them, never met them, will know their names and their sacrifice for our country.

It has been truly remarkable to see the dedication and love that the members of the Severna Park Heroes of the Vietnam War board members had, in making today possible.

I was humbled to be a small piece of their efforts to see this incredibly important memorial through.  The attention to detail considered everyone who may visit this memorial, including handicapped accessible access that allows for more than one person in a wheelchair to visit the memorial at the same time.

Coach Andy Borland, and Doug Nichols put their heart and souls into this effort for the men they have never forgotten.

The wounds of war could be felt with each speaker, including:

Wes Guckert - USAF Vietnam Veteran & Board Member, Veterans and Military Support Alliance (VAMSA)

Honorable John C. Astle - retired US Marine Corps Officer and Vietnam War Veteran.

James Howie Warner - Captain USMC Vietnam Veteran and former North Vietnam POW.

On this Memorial Day, I wish everyone a moment of thoughtful reflection for those who have never come home, in the name of our freedom and our country.

God Bless those we have lost and their families.
