Bill 58-25 FOR the purpose of adding pet grooming services as a home occupation
Since November of 2024 I’ve introduced and passed multiple pieces of legislation that update our code related to the health and welfare of animals and pets. It wasn’t an area I expected to do a lot of work in, but legislation isn’t always planned in advance. On July 7, my 4th animal related bill passed unanimously. It’s a small change, but one that is significant to those who advocated for it. Bill 58-25 allows pet grooming as a conditional use in the county home occupation section of the code. This topic has been brought up to me several times in my time on the council by mobile groomers and commercial space leases struggling with the cost of staying in business.
Other animal related Bills:
91-24 - updated our code to adjust minimum lot size requirements to the number of dogs for pet care businesses done from residential homes.
6-25 Adds miniature pigs as pets with certain lot size requirements.
13-25 Updated the definition of Animal Hospitals and Veterinary Clinics and allows for non-medical overnight stays/boarding in certain conditions.
Thank you to my colleagues for their unanimous support, and more importantly to the residents who entrusted me with this code update.
