Judicial Protection

The Sheriff is responsible for judicial protective duties concerning the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County.

This entails scrutinizing persons seeking entrance to the facility, patrolling corridors, attending to courtrooms during hearings, staffing a 24-hour a day Building Command Center, and maintaining a Detention Command Center to house inmates who have been scheduled for court appearances. Annually, over 22,000 prisoners pay a visit to the Sheriff’s Office temporary holding cells.

Excluding personnel employed in the building, approximately 323,929 citizens pass through the security check point at the entrance of the facility each year.
