The Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office accepts applications for Summer Law Clerks beginning in February for the following Summer. Students who have completed their 2L year are eligible for hourly pay for 30 hours/week for up to 10 weeks; students who have completed their 1L year are eligible for a stipend, and the SAO will work with your law school to get credit as an externship/internship.
 

Program Overview:

  • 10-week Program
  • Diverse and hands on experience
    • Research and analyze complex legal issues
    • Write persuasive memoranda based on that research
    • Assist with the management of exhibits and evidence
    • Interact with staff, court personnel, and the public
    • Attend a variety of court sessions
    • Maintain confidentiality
    • Be flexible to work at any of our three locations: Circuit Courthouse in Annapolis, or the District Court in Annapolis and Glen Burnie

Primary responsibilities

Law Clerks work closely with the Assistant State’s Attorneys to assist with hearings and trial preparations for violent crime, sexual assault, narcotics, auto manslaughter, economic, juvenile or misdemeanor and traffic cases.

Qualifications

Successful applicants will have excellent legal research and writing abilities, strong communication and team skills, a great work ethic and a good attitude. Only current law students at an ABA-accredited law school will be considered.
