2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Glen Burnie, Md. - June 1, 2026, marks the beginning of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, which runs through November 30, 2026. Between mid-August and October, Anne Arundel County is more likely to experience the effects of tropical systems, including storm surge, flooding, high winds, heavy rainfall, and possible tornadoes. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts a below-normal 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, with an estimated 8 to 14 named storms, 3 to 6 hurricanes, and 1 to 3 major hurricanes.

Preeti Emrick, Director of the Office of Emergency Management, urges County residents, businesses, and local government to work together to protect our community and minimize the impact of tropical storms and hurricanes.

"Even in a below-normal season, it only takes one storm to cause significant impacts," Emrick said. “Now is the time for all residents to review their family emergency plans, make improvements to property, check insurance coverage, gather important documents, and stay informed through reliable sources.”

Residents should prepare by building or refreshing emergency kits, reviewing family communication plans, knowing their evacuation plans, checking insurance policies, and storing important documents in a safe, accessible place. Make sure everyone in the household knows where to find key documents and supplies.
