DisAbility Awareness Day is an opportunity for the community to come together and spread awareness of disability issues. The public is invited to attend the free DisAbility Awareness Day event. This annual event combines interactive exhibits, information on disability issues, and live entertainment. Twenty-one (21) exhibitors who provide services to individuals with disabilities will have free information on available services and programs.

Disability Awareness Day is celebrated annually in October during National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). The theme for NDEAM 2025, "Celebrating Value and Talent," recognizes the value and talent American workers with disabilities add to our workplaces and economy and highlight their achievements both past and present.

County Executive Steuart Pittman and Councilwoman Allison Pickard (District 2) will present citations to this year's honoree, Bitty and Beau’s Coffee. Since 2020, Bitty and Beau’s Coffee in Annapolis has become a local leader in demonstrating the power of inclusion through employment by hiring and training individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, giving them meaningful work and the opportunity to connect with the community in a way that fosters both independence and pride. County Executive Pittman and Councilwoman Pickard will also present citations to businesses, organizations, and individuals that provide employment or other opportunities to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities.

County Executive Pittman and Deputy Secretary Anne Blackfield, Maryland Department of Disabilities, will present proclamations honoring the observance of National Disability Employment Awareness month. The Talent Machine will provide a live performance.

The event is sponsored by the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities and the Commission on Disability Issues. Anne Arundel County employees, members of the Commission on Disability Issues, Maryland Department of Disabilities staff, local elected officials, exhibitors, awardees, and other visitors will be in attendance.
