Seeds 4 Success (S4S) is a community-based nonprofit located in Annapolis, Maryland. Its origins go back to 2008 in response to rising gun violence in Annapolis. A group of women then came together to create the Eastport Girls Club- an after-school initiative for children in the Eastport Terrace and Harbour House communities. By 2011, the initiative had grown into a formal organization, incorporating as Seeds 4 Success. What began as a grassroots effort with just a $500 donation from a local civic group has since transformed into a respected 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
S4S’ mission is to work together as a community to provide children from low income communities with the skills and support to achieve success in school and life. Each of their five programs serve young people and their families from Pre-K through career, fostering growth, education, career, and future success. These five comprehensive, evidence-based programs, are titled: Learn, Dream, Grow, Share, and the AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparents Program.
The Learn program is for grades PK-5 and offers enrichment opportunities, such as summer camps, field trips, STEM days, and more, including their mentoring services. The Dream program is for grades 6-8 and participants engage in college and career readiness activities with their mentors. The Grow program is for participants matriculating to high school and beginning their career paths. The high school participants receive weekly one-on-one mentoring with their academics, college and career preparation, driver’s education, and more. Beyond high school, participants receive specialized tutoring, scholarships, financial literacy, career navigation, and more.
S4S’ Share program is designed to help S4S families, alumni, and youth engagement through workshops, sharing feedback, partnerships, and additional needs. The S4S Americorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program connects role models, 55 and older, to young people in Maryland to provide mentorship and support.
