DisAbility Awareness Day is an opportunity for the community to come together and spread awareness of disability issues. The public is invited to attend the free DisAbility Awareness Day event. This annual event combines interactive exhibits, information on disability issues, and live entertainment. Twenty-two (22) exhibitors who provide services to individuals with disabilities will have free information on available services and programs.
Disability Awareness Day is celebrated annually in October during National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). The theme for NDEAM 2024, "Access to Good Jobs for All," recognizes the vital role people with disabilities play in making the nation's workforce diverse, inclusive, and strong. Good jobs change lives, and all workers deserve the opportunity to prepare for, obtain, and succeed in them.
County Executive Steuart Pittman will be presenting a citation to this year's honoree, Jillian Amodio. Jillian is a remarkable advocate for individuals with disabilities and mental health awareness. A licensed social worker, Jillian has dedicated her career to uplifting those facing mental health challenges.
County Executive Steuart Pittman will also present citations to businesses, organizations, and individuals that provide employment or other opportunities to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities. Performances will feature The Musical Autist and The Talent Machine.
The event is sponsored by the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities and the Commission on Disability Issues. Anne Arundel County employees, members of the Commission on Disability Issues, local elected officials, exhibitors, awardees, and other visitors will be in attendance.
