Glen Burnie, MD- June 1, 2022, marks the beginning of the Atlantic Hurricane Season which runs through November 30, 2022. Between Mid-August and October, Anne Arundel County is more likely to experience the effects of tropical systems including storm surge, flooding, and possible tornadoes. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) expects this to be another overactive season with more tropical systems than the average season, so we urge all residents to prepare now to reduce loss of life and property.
"With many of our coastal communities being at risk for damaging storm surge, flooding, and high winds, I urge all of our residents to prepare now before disaster strikes,” said the Office of Emergency Management Director; Preeti Emrick. Individual and community preparedness is essential for reducing the loss of life and property during and after tropical storms and hurricanes.
We encourage our residents to individually prepare for hurricane season by checking their insurance policies, gathering important documents, and storing them in a safe, accessible spot in their homes. Remember that other family members or children may have to grab these documents if adults aren’t home, so make sure they know where to find them.
