Home Builders are registered through the Maryland Attorney General’s office at 877-259-4525. The Maryland Home Improvement Commission Licenses are issued by the State of Maryland, Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation, telephone 888-218-5925. Other construction and contractor licenses and general business licenses are issued by the Clerk of the Circuit Court, telephone 410-222-1434. Dog and Cat Licenses are issued through the County Police, Animal Control Division at 410-222-8900.
You can download an application online (see link below) and mail the completed application and requested materials to Licensing Division, Department of Inspections and Permits, 2664 Riva Rd., Annapolis MD 21401. Testing for an Electrician’s license may be offered by Anne Arundel County twice a year. The applicant must receive prior approval from the County Board of Electrical Examiners to sit for the exam. The Board generally meets once every 6 months. Complete and submit the exam application which is also available online along with the license application.

You may obtain the application and apply at our main office or download an application online (see link below) and mail the completed application and requested materials to Licensing Division, Department of Inspections and Permits, 2664 Riva Rd., Annapolis MD 21401. The application is then reviewed by the appropriate board to determine if the applicant is qualified to take the test. If so, you will be notified and a test date may be scheduled.
If the product is taken door to door or moved about in a vehicle, a Hucksters License is required. If a stand to sell the product is utilized, and the customers come to you, the vendor, then a Roadside Vendor License may be required. Call 410-222-7788 for an application or information.
Anne Arundel County requires a Multiple Dwelling License (MDL) for a dwelling with 2 or more dwelling units, rooms, portions thereof, or apartments that your property has available for occupancy. This includes rooming houses, dormitories, apartments, hotels, motels, bed and breakfast inns and similar establishments. This does not include: dwellings with two dwelling units where one of 2 units is owner-occupied, accessory dwellings with one dwelling unit, roommate situations, or single-family dwellings.
All MDL applicants must obtain and provide this office with a Zoning Certificate of Use. Contact Anne Arundel County Zoning Enforcement at 410-222-7446 for information on the Certificate of Use. If owners do not reside in Anne Arundel County, a designated resident agent is required. All properties must also be inspected and approved by the Anne Arundel County Department of Health and Fire Marshal’s Office, if applicable. Properties must also be compliance with the Maryland Department of the Environment Reduction of Lead Risk in Housing Law.
