Sapphire Rise, a Resident Organization at the Nonprofit Center, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit seeking to fill the gap in STEM education and remove barriers to the highest levels of STEM education. As a partner with the Anne Arundel County Public Schools, Sapphire Rise facilitates in-person activities that encourage further exploration and enrichment in STEM fields. These include in-school and after-school programs in Anne Arundel County, and after-school programs and special workshops or events open to the broader community.
In these programs, students are introduced to concepts like math, technology, science, and engineering through age-appropriate enrichment activities. These include learning the math behind sports and movement; learning the basics of automation with robots; building stable, functional, and creative structures using basic principles of design; and exploring chemistry in a manner that stimulates the senses - with colors and fun (and safe) textures!
Sapphire Rise aims to provide continuous learning opportunities to people of all ages and backgrounds, helping to level the playing field within the STEM fields. In addition, the event program fosters community engagement, cross-cultural collaboration, global citizenship, innovation and creativity. Sapphire Rise also provides resources for career readiness, including mentorship, hands-on training, and certifications relevant to STEM industries.
