Summary: Must be a registered Maryland voter. Train, as part of a team of approximately 2,000 Election Judges (polling place workers) hired by the Anne Arundel County Board of Elections to serve over 100 polling locations and 10 early voting sites during the 2026 Gubernatorial Elections.

Time Frame: The term of service runs from early January 2026 through the end of June after the Primary Election. Some terms may continue through the end of November at the conclusion of the General Election. Reduction in force may occur at the conclusion of the Primary and General Elections as the workload dictates.  

Training Program Duties: Responsible for instructing Election Judges by utilizing various methods, including lecture, hands-on demonstration, audiovisual aids, and written materials to supplement presentations. Maintain order in the training room. Meet regularly with Supervisors and Team Leads to discuss training program progress and issues.

Election Office Duties: Assist the Election Office by completing in-office election tasks, including voter registration, processing election judge applications, assign election judges to training classes, and contacting election judges to verify training class attendance.

Early Voting Duties: On-site support staff at early voting sites or managing the same-day voter registration process at early voting sites.

Election-Related Duties: Evaluate polling places and provide field support on Election Day; provide support during the Mail-In Ballot and Provisional Ballot canvass process; support the completion of required post-election audits.

Hourly Pay Rate: $18.00 to $20.00 per hour

Availability: Full-time (40 hours per week) plus extended workdays, Saturdays, and Sundays as needed. During the election time frame, overtime will be required, including Saturdays and Sundays. Overtime (1.5 times hourly rate) is earned for hours worked over 40 hours in a week. On Election Day and during Early Voting, you will be required to work from 5:30 a.m. until approximately 1:00 a.m. The Primary Election is June 23, 2026, and the General Election is November 3, 2026.

Benefits: This position is temporary. Temporary employees are paid sick and safe leave based on hours worked per week. They do not receive any benefits, such as medical benefits or holidays. They are paid only for the hours actually worked.

Position Requirements: To perform the job successfully, an individual must demonstrate good attendance/punctuality, dependability, and the ability to present information effectively. Must have solid communication skills, including strong written communication. The ability to inspire and motivate others to perform well, demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness, display professionalism, and adapt to a changing work environment, and the ability to perform data entry into a database.

Education and/or Experience: Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of job-related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Subject matter training will be provided.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk, hear, and listen. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Transportation: Reliable transportation and driving are required. A valid Maryland Driver’s License and a driving record with no more than six points for moving violations is required. Some training classes may be scheduled at satellite locations around Anne Arundel County. Trainers will be required to visit multiple locations in Anne Arundel County during Early Voting and on Election Day.
