An Explosion at a Home in Annapolis Leaves a 77 yo Man in Critical Condition

The Anne Arundel County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating an explosion that occurred on June 2, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m. at a residence in the 3000 block of Friends Road, Annapolis, Maryland.

The incident involved a 77-year-old (yo) man who was reportedly mixing chemicals inside a detached shed on the property when an explosion occurred. Neighbors heard the loud boom and saw smoke from the neighbor’s garage and responded to find the 77 yo in distress as a result of the explosion. The neighbors provided basic medical care until first responders arrived.

The explosion caused significant structural damage to the detached shed. The 77 yo man sustained severe injuries and was transported via Maryland State Police Aviation to Shock Trauma in Baltimore for immediate medical treatment.

The victim remains in serious medical condition. No other injuries have been reported at this time.

This incident involved a coordinated effort between the Anne Arundel County and Annapolis City Fire departments, the Fire Arson/Explosives Investigation Units, and Federal Officials. First responders arrived quickly, secured the scene, and mitigated any potential risks. Investigators are actively working to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the explosion.
