The revised 2025 updates to the Anne Arundel County Engineering and Construction Standards are attached. These updates are scheduled to be approved with an effective date of September 1, 2025. Updates included are the following, and in bold:

24-01

  • Increase Through Lane width on Local Road to 12' for emergency vehicle access and provide 24' minimum of pavement on all roads.
  • As a result of comments made during the initial review period for this Orange Notice, the following revisions have been made to the Standard Cross-Section Requirements Table:
    1. The new note has been revised to read: 
      All roads must provide a minimum width of 24' of pavement for emergency access.
    2. The Minimum Through Lane width for Local Roads is shown as 10'.
    3. An asterisk has been provided on ALL Through Lane widths to refer to the new note.
    4. The following note has been added to the Standard Cross-Section Requirements table: 
      Note for clarity that this table refers only to requirements for public roads. Private road standards are published separately by the Department of Inspections and Permits.
  • "No Parking" to be designated in cul-de-sacs.

  • Update Section GP-2.01 to provide additional categories to be used for bid advertisement purposes - existing language tops at $3M.

Prior Exemption 

(Revised per comments received during the first review period for this Orange Notice)

In conjunction with the Department of Inspections & Permits, the implementation of these revisions will provide for a Prior Exemption period related to development projects. Preliminary Plans, Sketch Plans, Final Plans, and Site Development Plans that have made an official submission through the Permit Center by June 30, 2025, will be allowed to proceed under the conditions of the current Design and Construction Standards. This Prior Exemption provision will remain in place as long as the project does not expire. 

All other projects are subject to the July 2025 Design and Construction Standards provisions as of September 1, 2025
