Shop 'N Eat

A program offered by the Department of Aging and Disabilities to educate and provide opportunities for Anne Arundel County's older adults to develop healthy eating habits through the use of subsidized grocery cards.


The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities, Nutrition Program Shop'N Eat (Subsidizing Healthy-food Options Plus Nutrition Education and Training) is a program that provides seniors an opportunity to purchase subsidized grocery cash cards and learn about various nutrition education topics to develop healthy eating habits. 

The program has been broken down into 2 periods that last six months. There will be 3 sessions each during each period. Participants may only participate once a period. Each session the store selection will change. Sessions will be held in August, October, December, February, April, and June. 

Each session, the Shop 'N Eat Program will distribute grocery cards from one store.  This session the store will be Safeway.  You may use any Safeway grocery store in the county.

Who is eligible?

  • Seniors who live in Anne Arundel County and are at least 60 years of age can purchase a Shop ‘N Eat Cash Card for use at any participating grocery store. 
  • Program is limited to one person per household. 
  • Participants must show proof of Anne Arundel county residency, and participate in the nutrition education for the session to be eligible.
  • Participants may pay by cash, check or money order only.

Program Requirements

  • Anne Arundel County resident
  • 60 years or older
  • Must have valid state ID
  • Registration is mandatory
  • Participate in the nutrition education each quarter
  • Pay by check, cash or money order
  • Late arrivals (15 minutes or more) will result in ineligibility to participate that day
  • Expect to be at distribution for at least 2 hrs. This includes nutrition education and the distribution of cash cards.
  • If you are a “no show, no call” for your registered quarter you will be ineligible to participate in the next quarter

Individuals will be chosen for a session on a first come first served basis. Any missing information on the applications will delay your registration being processed. The Senior Nutrition Program will reach out to you regarding your placement within 5 business days of receiving your completed application.
