Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities Expands the Senior Center Plus Program

Annapolis, MD (August 3, 2023) - The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities is pleased to announce the expansion of their Senior Center Plus Program. Starting on August 15, the program will be available for eligible, older adults at the South County Senior Activity Center located at 27 Stepneys Lane, Edgewater, MD. The program is currently available at the following Senior Activity Centers: Pascal, Arnold, Annapolis, and South County.

Senior Center Plus is a structured, supervised socialization program for those older adults who may not be able to participate independently in the programs offered at the senior activity centers. This four hour, guided program is led by experienced staff who create a unique interaction for participants that focuses on the individual's strengths and interests to deliver a meaningful experience for each participant. Activities include cognitive, social, and physical recreational activities, adapted for older adults who need support in order to participate in senior activity center programs. Lunch is also served. Eligible participants must have the ability to communicate their needs and be independent with self-care.

“We are excited to expand the Senior Center Plus program" said Karrisa Kelly, Director, Department of Aging and Disabilities "The program allows us to serve and enrich the lives of older adults in an inclusive senior activity center environment."

Senior Center Plus is a program for individuals 55 and over who need assistance in order to participate in programming at the senior activity centers. Eligibility for the program is determined by the Adults Evaluation and Review Service (AERS) evaluation. This evaluation also helps to determine other programs an individual may qualify for through the Department of Aging and Disabilities. To schedule this free evaluation, please contact Lori Litke, MA, LGPAT at (410) 222-1483 or aglitk00@aacounty.org.

This program has a fee of $20 a day for the programming offered within the senior activity center by experienced staff. Transportation to and from the Senior Center Plus Program is provided by each participant's family or care provider.

In addition to the in-person program, the department also offers a virtual option. Virtual Senior Center Plus is an engaging program for older adults with memory and/or functional limitations that may require assistance. The hour and a half program is offered on Fridays and consists of stimulating games, music, and activities and allows participants socialization through a virtual platform.
