Multimodal improvements on Shore Acres Road

District 5 Blog Post: 07/07/2026

It was a full house for the Shore Acres sidewalk study at Broadneck Library on July 7!

Requests for a sidewalk extending from Broadneck Elementary School to communities on the North end of Shore Acres have been made for years, but they increased significantly with the construction of the Broadneck Trail.

The county is now considering this project for future capital funding. I’m very happy we are at the point of considering what kind of pedestrian and bike infrastructure could be possible. We can’t make decisions without knowing the options, which is why I pushed for funding this study in previous budgets, escalating it by one year to reach this point.

I want to emphasize that this is a 30% design and more funding will be required to move to full design and construction. Funding is voted on by the County Council.

This is the important time for you to weigh in! Residents in attendance tonight provided very valuable feedback, especially those with homes directly on Shore Acres Rd.

I appreciate the opportunity the department gave me to answer some of the broader questions those in attendance had. The more you know, the better you can engage, and your engagement is invaluable.  I commit to continuing to work with residents on this project, which includes considering adjusting the scope (a sidewalk on 1 side instead of 2), or even deciding not to move forward.

Please note the proposal only extends to the split, not beyond it.
