We need your input!

County Executive Pittman will introduce the proposed budget on April 30th, in accordance with the county charter. The County Council then has 45 days to deliberate and pass a final, balanced budget. The County Executive is seeking input from the public to help shape county priorities. Please use the resources on this site to get insight into the components of the budget and the county's fiscal situation.

The county has several revenue sources with the vast majority of funding coming from it's citizen's property and income taxes.

  • About half of the County's budget funds our public schools
  • Nearly 20% funds police, fire and other public safety
  • Debt service (interest payments on bonds) is among the next highest expenditures, at 4%

Anne Arundel County provides a multitude of services for its citizens in addition to maintaining equipment, buildings, and infrastructure. These have real costs that need to be considered in the budget process and adjusted as the needs of the county change. Small rate changes can have a significant impact in the county budget


Income Tax:

  • Raising our income tax rate by 0.1% (2.81 to 2.91) would increase revenue by: $9,666,000 in FY22*

  • Lowering our income tax rate by 0.1% (2.81 to 2.71) would decrease revenue by: $9,666,000 in FY22*

* Annualized impact is $22,479,000


Property Tax:

  • Raising the property tax rate* by 1% would increase revenue by: $7,745,000

  • Lowering the property tax rate* by 1% would decrease revenue by: $7,745,000

* The Property Tax represents the amount a homeowner is taxed per $100 of assessed value of their home

Provide Input

Once again a community town hall meeting will be held in each County Council District to discuss the upcoming budget in collaboration with each respective Councilmember, and to hear from members of the public.

Each meeting will feature opening remarks from the County Executive and the host Councilmember, followed by a brief budget presentation. Attendees will then be encouraged to pose questions and give comments on what they would like funded in the FY22 Budget.

This year, due to COVID, the budget town halls will be held virtually. Please register using the link for your district's town hall below to join us and share your ideas and priorities for county government. All budget town halls will be streamed live to facebook.com/aacoexec where you will be able to watch them in full after the meeting, and provide written comments.
