About the portrait

A realistic portrait of Pearl Bailey was executed by Jeff Huntington, Future History Now, and George “Lassie” Belt + Kids of Stanton Center on the cinder block exterior wall of the Whitmore Garage, between Washington and Calvert Streets in Annapolis, MD. This collaborative work between the artist and kids from the community facing adversity pays homage to the historic Ward 4 neighborhood where Ms. Bailey worked for two years at the Washington Hotel. The project engaged the community, raised awareness of contemporary art, and provided hands-on experience in mathematics, history, practical applications and problem solving through the art making process.
