INJURY Crash                                                                                                         Laurel

On November 12th 2016 at approximately 5:48am officers responded to a single vehicle rollover crash on the ramp from the northbound Baltimore-Washington Pkwy (MD-295) to eastbound Laurel-Ft. Meade Rd (MD-198) in Laurel. Investigation showed the Toyota was exiting from MD-295 onto MD-198 when the vehicle’s left side tires ran onto the unimproved shoulder.  The driver appears to have over-corrected and started a series of swerves which led to him leaving the roadway, striking a ditch and rolling over.   The driver was taken by fire department personnel to PG Trauma with serious injuries.

The preliminary cause of the crash is the driver’s failure to remain in a single lane.  A contributing factor may have been excessive speed for the ramp.  It does not appear that drug/alcohol use contributed to the crash.  Traffic Safety is handling the investigation & charges are pending a review by the State’s Attorney. As of November 14, 2016, the driver’s status has been upgraded to stable condition and is expected to survive.
