Fatal Injury Crash Linthicum
On May 24th 2017 at approximately 3:30pm officers responded to the report of a crash on northbound Belle Grove Rd (MD-170) near Baltimore Annapolis Blvd (MD-648) in Linthicum. A Safetow tow truck was stopped on the roadway in front of 6051 Belle Grove Rd picking up a disabled vehicle. The driver was standing at the rear of the tow truck securing straps when both he and his tow truck were struck from behind by a Dodge Magnum travelling north on Belle Grove Road. The tow truck driver was transported to Shock Trauma in Baltimore with life threatening injuries where he later died. The driver of the Dodge was taken to Harbor Hospital for treatment.
The primary cause of the crash is the Dodge driver’s failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision. Alcohol and/or drugs are believed to be a contributing factor.
The Traffic Safety Section is handing the investigation and any charges would be after a review by the State’s Attorney.
