Police Press Release May 20, 2017

On May 19, 2017 at 11:12 p.m. officers responded to a single vehicle overturned in the woods on Defense Hwy (MD-450) near Huntwood Drive in Gambrills.  The Ford was traveling eastbound on Defense Highway approaching Huntwood Drive when it left the roadway to the right and for an unknown reason, began to roll and struck a tree with the roof.  The driver was found trapped in the vehicle and declared dead at the scene by Fire Department personnel.  She was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

There were no witnesses to the crash and the reason for the driver leaving the roadway is unclear at this time.  The preliminary cause of the crash is failure to remain in a single lane though rain may have been a contributing factor.  It is also unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved at this time and the driver was wearing a seatbelt.

The Traffic Safety Section is handing the investigation and anyone who witnessed the crash or may have any pertinent information is asked to call 410-222-8573.
