Serious Injury Motorcycle - Millersville
On June 9, 2017 at approximately 6:36 a.m., officers responded to a motorcycle crash on southbound Crain Hwy (MD-3) just north of Annapolis Road (MD-175) in Millersville. Investigation showed that a Yamaha motorcycle was southbound on MD-3 at a very high rate of speed when it came upon vehicles stopped for the red traffic signal at Annapolis Road. The motorcycle driver attempted to split the lane between two vehicles and glanced off one, ejecting him from the motorcycle. He sustained possible life-threatening injuries and was taken by helicopter to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
The primary cause of the crash is excessive speed and failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision. There were no signs of alcohol or drug use and he was wearing a helmet. The Traffic Safety Section is assisting patrol with the investigation and any charges will be after review by the State’s Attorney.
