1st Degree Assault/Recovered Firearm - Odenton

On Friday, November 04, 2015 at approximately 12:25 a.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Annapolis Road near Charter Oaks Boulevard for an armed subject with a gun.  The complainant, who was in a vehicle, stated that they were being chased by a subject armed with a shot gun who was driving a white Chevrolet Tahoe. The complainant stayed on the phone with dispatch as officers began to converge on the area. Officers located the suspect vehicle on Route 175 near Berger Street. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, however the vehicle refused to stop, and continued East on Route 175 attempting to evade officers. Officers followed the vehicle until the vehicle came to a stop on Nevada Avenue near Annapolis Road.

Investigation would reveal that the complainant and the suspect were involved in a road rage type incident that originated on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. The suspect began following the adult male victim from the Parkway to route 32 onto Route 175. The victim then pulled into the High's store at 1624 Annapolis Road and went into the store. When the victim came out of the store, the suspect vehicle again approached the victim. At that time the suspect displayed a shotgun and made threatening comments that put the victim in fear for his life. The victim ran to his car and was driving towards the Western District station while on the phone with dispatch.

A search of the suspect vehicle failed to reveal any weapon. However, officers began to retrace the 1.2 miles the suspect had driven prior to stopping. Along the roadway on Berger Street near Baldwin Avenue, officers located a black bag containing a black Mossberg, 12 gauge shotgun, with a pistol grip. The shotgun and bag were consistent with what the victim had described. The suspect was taken into custody and taken to the Western District. A check of the suspect's criminal history revealed the suspect was prohibited from being in possession of this type of firearm.
