Serious Injury Pedestrian Crash Odenton
On March 26, 2016 at approximately 4:30 am officers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle.
Witnesses reported the pedestrian was skateboarding in the roadway of westbound Rt. 175 when he was struck by the vehicle. Investigation revealed the pedestrian had made a purchase at the Royal Farm Store located on Rt. 175 and Blue Water Blvd. After leaving the store the pedestrian, who was wearing all dark clothing, skateboarded west on Rt. 175 traveling in the left hand lane, when he was struck by the vehicle. Due to the characteristics of the sidewalk in that area it is believed the pedestrian chose to skateboard in the street.
The pedestrian who suffered head trauma and multiple fractures, was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma in serious condition. The driver of the Lexus was not injured.
The preliminary cause of the crash appears to be pedestrian error.
Speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor on the part of the Lexus driver in this crash. Traffic Safety is handling the investigation.
