Copper Theft - Crofton
During the month of March, detectives of the Anne Arundel County Police Metal Theft Unit (MTU) conducted a theft scheme investigation involving theft of copper wire from Rock Creek Construction Company located at 1220 Cronson Blvd in Crofton. During the investigation it was discovered that over the past several months, thefts had exceeded $100,000.00 in material. Also during the investigation, detectives were able to identify the suspects who were responsible. Detectives applied for charges on the suspects but were unable to locate them to serve the arrest warrants. Assuming the suspects would strike again, detectives took action to attempt to catch the suspects while committing a theft from Rock Creek Construction.
On March 19, 2017 at approximately 1:53 a.m., detectives were conducting surveillance when they observed a theft from Rock Creek Construction being committed. Detectives were able to give a brief lookout for the suspect vehicle which was quickly located by uniform patrol officers. In the vehicle, officers located copper wire valued at over $2,500 stolen from Rock Creek Construction. Both occupants of the vehicle were placed under arrest and transported to Western District. One of the suspects (Prosser) also had two outstanding warrants for the previous thefts from that location. In addition that suspect was caught in January at Rock Creek Construction by MTU and Western District committing a similar offense. The suspects were charged with 4th Degree Burglary, Theft Over $1000.00, and Trespassing.
