EASTERN DISTRICT

Suicide                                                                                                                        Pasadena

On February 20th 2016 at approximately 2:47 a.m., officers responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Ft Smallwood Rd near Russell Ave in Pasadena.  Investigation revealed that a Chevrolet pickup was eastbound on Ft Smallwood Rd when it drifted off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.  The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for autopsy.

There were no witnesses to the crash and it first appeared the driver may have fallen asleep.  The Medical Examiner’s autopsy found a single self-inflicted gunshot wound in the driver’s head.  There was also a small revolver found in the truck with one spent round and as a result, the Medical Examiner has ruled the cause of death a suicide, not a fatal crash.

Traffic Safety has consulted with the Homicide unit and closed the case as a suicide.
